[dropcap2]T[/dropcap2]he main among teaching methods at NIMT—and consistent with our philosophy of collaboration—are team projects. Many teams are created for a particular project, but many are centered on study groups, through which you and your classmates tackle daily assignments and learn work skills that will serve throughout your careers. Most team projects are low-key, but others, such as the multifaceted First-Year Project represent major accomplishments.
NIMT classrooms are often lively places. Traditional lectures can transform into open discussions. And discussions can lead to face-to-face feedback between professors and peers. Role play and simulations share the spotlight with problem-solving sessions. Or students may be asked to reflect on their life experience and discuss the source of their leadership styles.
Perhaps the most theoretical interchanges with faculty take place in NIMT’s unique Research-to-Practice seminars where a small number of second-year students engage with a professor to dig deep into a management issue and come to understand methods of intellectual inquiry—critical thinking skills that will serve you throughout your career.
Rigorous self-analysis is at the core of NIMT’s approach to leadership development. Combining feedback from coworkers and fellow students with instruction and peer coaching, our students gain insights that the traditional case teaching method can’t provide.
A significant number of our students also participate in independent study. Under the direction of a faculty member, students explore their own interests, creating new knowledge of particular significance to their own careers.
- Diverse study groups
As an MBA/PGDM participant you will initially join a study group of 5 to 6 students, selected to maximise diversity in terms of age, gender, nationality, experience, previous education and professional background. During most of the core courses of the programme, your group will become the focal point for your work as you complete assignments and solve problems together.
- Lively classroom exchange
In the classroom, NIMT professors aim to bring out the best in each of you, so that you learn from each other’s experiences as well as from their own cutting-edge research. Their objective is to tease out different perspectives in order to orchestrate a multi-faceted debate and challenge everyone’s assumptions.
- Multiple teaching methods
There is no single preferred teaching method at NIMT. Our faculty is free to choose the method they believe fits best with the content of the session. You will, therefore, experience a wide variety of teaching styles and techniques, including case studies, computer simulations, role-plays, project work and study tours. What matters to NIMT is not the method chosen but the result: the effectiveness of your learning experience.
