Introduction

This course is created to address the manpower shortage in the Intensive Care arena. The future medical environment will require versatile trained individuals in a variety of medical interventions. Currently clinicians are overwhelmed by technical advancements in the health care and its has become imperative that trained technicians are available to deliver competent care to the patients using current technology and be equipped to address future modifications in the current practice. Addition of mechanical ventilation to function of ICU Technician broadens the supporting cast in the Intensive Care Unit.

Course Objectives

 Prepare the students to assist Intensive Care Physicians to manage the Intensive Care Units and organize instruments required for procedures conducted in the ICU and operate mechanical, electronic and digital machines used in patient care.

 To create skilled manpower who can ensure safe and effective use of Blood Analysers, Point Of Care Devices, various type of Ventilators, Automatic and Manual Defibrillators, Patient Care Monitors, Infusion Pumps and other life-support devices used in critically ill
patients.
 The students should also be acquainted with documentation, asepsis, quality procedures, and be able to prevent and rectify problems if they should arise. They should also be familiar with quality assurance standards that pertain in this country.
1.2. Eligibility for Admission
The candidate should have completed B.Sc Nursing, BHMS, BAMS & BUMS with 2 years experience of working in Intensive Care Department / Emergency Department/ EMS;
OR
MBBS, B.Sc Nursing with Certificate in Critical Care Nursing/ Emergency Care Nursing;
Or
BHMS, BAMS, BUMS with PGD in Emergency Medical Service or equivalent
Or
B.Sc (EMT)/ B.Voc (EMS) or equivalent

Employability

The employability for Intensive Care Technologist is in large hospitals, major nursing homes having
ICUs.
