Physiotherapy is a health care profession concerned with maximising the potential of human function and movement. It uses physical approaches to promote, maintain, and restore physical, psychological and social well being, taking account of the variations in health status. At NIMT this is a science-based subject in which we are committed to applying, evaluating and reviewing the evidence that underpins and informs practice.
At the core of physiotherapy practice is the making of clinical judgement and informed interpretation of clinical information. Physiotherapists are autonomous professionals, able to act as first-contact practitioners, as well as accepting referrals from other health care professionals. Through partnership and negotiation, physiotherapists work with people to optimise their functional ability and potential.

No, but there is a strong link between Physiology, Physiotherapy, Anatomy and Yoga. Physiology and Anatomy are two different medical science subjects, which are either studied separately as B.Sc. Hons subjects or, come jointly in first year studies under MBBS and BDS. Yoga is a different method of healing ailments and part of ‘Alternative medicine’. In a nutshell, Physiotherapy neither belongs to ‘Alternative medicine’ (regarded unscientific by the majority) nor, it is related to MBBS (regarded scientific by the majority). It is something in the middle.
